Chapter VI.
Key to happiness
“If you want to be happy never dig in your past”
The key to happiness is to have no regrets and not to live in the past. Unsuccessful or painful experiences make us grow spiritually; they make us wiser people. That is why do not consider your choice as a mistake, even though the society imposes on us to feel this way. The thing is, it is easier and convenient for the institutions (including the religious ones) for people to be remorseful and carrying the feeling of guilt because it is easier to control and manage masses, to make them to take responsibilities for their actions and accept punishment. However, if we should always accept the consequences of our actions (we do it anyway) and responsibilities, the feeling of guilt and remorse is absolutely unnecessary and in fact, it steals your happiness and evaporates joy out of life. These negative feelings are very damaging for our wellbeing and should be dropped.
The right approach would be to understand that you made that choice because at that point in time you thought it was the best thing to do, given the circumstances, your knowledge and experience. Had you known better what to do or had you been more experienced, you would have acted differently and would have made a better choice. But you didn’t know and therefore you acted in the way you thought would be best. Thus, have no regrets, consider the consequences of your decisions as your learning playground and move on.
Doctor of neuropsychology J.W. Landgraf says, it is our Ego and body that suffer because for our immortal Soul every experience is a positive experience. We come to this world to learn and we grow from the choices we make, we become wiser over the years. Mistakes do not exist, only experiences for our immortal Soul evolving spiritual growth.
Every day of our life we have to make choices and then we have to live with the consequences of our choices, sometimes for the rest of our lives (our decision to have a child, to get married to that particular person, to start that particular education, job, etc.). But most of the time we don’t know how to act because we do not have enough experience and wisdom. Therefore, once you’ve made your choice there is no point having regrets afterwards. Since it was your decision, just learn a lesson from the situation, move on and never look back in the past. Do not live in the past, have no regrets, stop thinking about it, drop it, let it go and focus instead your thoughts and energy on your present moment and on building your bright future.
If you can change it, then do it today. However, if you cannot because the circumstances are out of your control, then – relax and let the Creator to take care of it.
If you want to be happy you need to learn how to live in the present. It is a skill that young children naturally possess but it gets lost with time when we grow up. You need to learn it again. It takes time but is a hundred times rewarding and worth every effort. Never look back, have no regrets. Live, love, create, plan and do something today to achieve your inspiring goals.
